Settlement Services for Ukrainian Nationals
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has created the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET) measures to provide Ukrainians and their dependents with a temporary safe haven in Canada. Through this measure, Ukrainians and their dependents will be able to work and study while in Canada for up to three years.
Since Ukrainian temporary residents (TRs) who were in Canada prior to the outbreak of the war cannot return home, the CUAET measures also allow them to extend their visitor status, work permit, or study permit.
In support of this initiative, IRCC has amended the Settlement Program’s Terms and Conditions to temporarily extend eligibility to Ukrainian temporary residents and their dependents to all federally-funded settlement services. The eligibility of the Program’s Terms and Conditions now includes the following clause:
"All Ukrainian temporary residents and their dependents in Canada are deemed eligible persons until March 31, 2023"
Lethbridge Family Services is in a position to serve Ukrainian temporary residents and their dependents (including their dependents who are not Ukrainian nationals), immediately.
In order to be eligible for settlement services, clients will need to demonstrate that they:
Are a Ukrainian national OR the dependent* of a Ukrainian temporary resident
*Dependent is defined as a spouse or common-law partner; their dependent child; the dependent child of their spouse/common-law partner; the dependent child of their dependent child. The dependent can be of any nationality.
andHave temporary resident status in Canada:
Work permit
Study permit
Visitor record
Temporary resident visa, or
Temporary resident permit
In recognition of the challenges that Ukrainian Nationals may face with providing all the required documentation to demonstrate eligibility, Lethbridge Family Services will assess eligibility to the best of their ability using the documentation available and will err on the side of providing services to clients. The Government of Alberta’s Ukraine Help Line provides a single, streamlined point of contact to help Ukrainian evacuees navigate the provincial supports and services available to them.
