Shoes for Kids YQL Celebrates Its Third Year Giving New Shoes to Kids in Need

Lethbridge–A new school year brings excitement and anticipation for the prospect of new teachers, classmates, clothes and supplies. For children to reach their full potential they need to feel good about themselves and secure in their own world. At Lethbridge Family Services, we help create this confidence in children through our many programs and services. Empowering children at a young age is critical to their future success.

This is why we are lucky to partner with Shoes for Kids #YQL. They believe that every child deserves to go back to school with a brand-new pair of sneakers so that kids can participate in sports, gain confidence and have shoes that fit them properly to avoid blisters and pinched toes, for peak performance. New shoes make an immediate and lasting difference for kids!

“It’s one less thing for parents to worry about, says Vic Rizal, Manager of Youth Settlement Services at LFS, “and it reassures families in need that their community cares about them.”

Last year, Shoes for Kids #YQL provided nearly 500 pairs of sneakers to children and youth in Lethbridge and surrounding Indigenous communities.

“Food insecurity is a great need and new shoes is not top priority. Too many families must choose between putting food on the table and buying new shoes. It is our hope that Shoes for Kids YQL will provide some relief to these families”, says Mallory Kristjanson, Shoes for Kids #YQL Foundation, Board President.

“And, we help throughout the year. When a child is in need; when shoes are falling apart and parents can’t afford to purchase new ones, Shoes for Kids #YQL will fill the need.”
