Newcomer Women's Group

Immigrant and refugee women in Canada often experience isolation. Social support can be difficult to maintain, and this can negatively impact mental health.

The Newcomer Women’s Group provides mental, physical, and social support to immigrant and refugee women experiencing challenges during their integration process. Participants build friendships and gain a better understanding of our community through social, cultural, and outdoor activities.

We ensure a safe, welcoming environment for newcomer women to learn from peers, take some time for themselves, share their stories, and discover their talents.

Our goal? Help group participants gain increased self-esteem and self-confidence, form lasting friendships, become more aware of services and resources available to them, and just have fun through activities like:

  • Gardening

  • Learning to sew, knit, and crochet

  • Art classes at Casa

  • Cultural tours and workshops at the Galt Museum

Fundraising Goal: $20,000

Who will we help? Up to 25 Newcomer Women every week
