Safi

Immigrant Services client and kind soul, Safi, is a refugee from Malawi. She spent many years living in a refugee camp in the Democratic Republic of the Congo before arriving in Canada in 2022. She is a widow and sole caregiver to her two grandchildren here in Lethbridge. But she still manages to make time for charitable activities!

Safi has been attending English language classes for the past year and a half, and wanted to volunteer at the Lethbridge Soup Kitchen to give back to her community. It's also become a great way to practice her English skills.

Each year, hundreds of thousands of immigrants across Canada volunteer their time to charitable causes. In fact, nearly 40% of immigrants aged 15 and older are volunteers. On average, these folks will donate 162 hours of their time per year. Learn more about the philanthropy of immigrants and refugees in Canada.

Thank you to Safi and everyone else who makes our community a better place!
