Community Domestic Violence Response Program

The Community Domestic Violence Response program works to identify successes, challenges, and themes in our community that will support families that are experiencing family violence. Through collaboration with local and provincial community partners, this program utilizes a primary prevention approach to enhance and support initiatives, strategies, and policies to challenge social norms and behaviours associated with family violence.

This program is facilitated by the Community Domestic Violence Response Lead. The leadership role supports the great work being done in southern Alberta. Such valuable work is seen through the collaborative efforts of many community partners including the Provincial Domestic and Sexual Violence Impact Initiative (IMPACT), the local Sexual Violence Action Committee (SVAC), and the local Domestic Violence Action Team (DVAT).

Professional training, presentations, and workshops are available upon request. Training, presentations, and workshops can be customized to meet the needs of the intended audience and outcomes. Areas of focus include dimensions of Domestic Violence, patterns of reoccurring violence, community interventions: recognizing and responding, Protection Orders, supports and referrals, and Clare’s Law. There is an additional presentation series focusing on Children and Youth Exposed to Domestic Violence. This series includes exposure, impacts, patterns of adjustment, attachment, trauma, lethal risk, resources, referrals, and protective factors.
