Canada-Ukraine Transitional Financial Assistance

Canada-Ukraine Transitional Financial Assistance

The Government of Canada is committed to supporting Ukrainians affected by the war. To help Ukrainians and their dependents arriving in Canada (including those who have already arrived) meet their basic needs, the Government has introduced transitional financial assistance.

What is transitional financial assistance?

The transitional financial assistance is a one-time, direct payment to Ukrainians approved under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) to meet their immediate and essential needs as they settle in Canada.

Who is eligible for transitional financial assistance?

Individuals approved under the CUAET who are in Canada, and have in their possession a valid work permit, study permit, temporary resident permit or visitor record are eligible to apply.

How much is the one-time direct payment?

Eligible applicants will receive the one-time direct payment through direct deposit into their Canadian bank account. Eligible adults (18 years and older at the time of the transitional financial assistance application) will receive a direct deposit of CA $3,000 each, and CA $1,500 per child (17 years and under at the time of the transitional financial assistance application).

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online. As of June 2, 2022 you can visit Canada.ca/ukraine-financial-assistance/ to apply.

What can you do to get ready now?

To receive the payment, eligible clients must open a bank account at a Canadian banking institution. It is important that the bank account is in the same name as the name of the adult’s temporary resident status document (work permit, study permit, temporary resident permit or visitor record). For families, it will be possible for a parent to submit an application on behalf of the entire family. Once the Canadian bank account is open and the application process is open, clients will be able submit their application online.
