Suitcases for Kids Project

It is difficult to imagine that some children and teens can be faced with quickly packing up their precious belongings, into a garbage bag, when having to move to a different home into foster care. Whatever the reason, removing a child from one home and placing them in another, is traumatic.

A suitcase can be an essential item that can help restore dignity and hope. It would help these children to literally and emotionally unpack and sort through their feelings; provide a little security; and yes, bring hope.

Why is Lethbridge Family Services committed to Suitcases for Kids? We learned about the need through social workers during our LFS Angel Tree Christmas Campaign, and felt it essential to help these children and teens, not only at Christmas, but whenever they need help throughout the year.

Fundraising Goal: $10,000.
How many children will we help? 65 children in Lethbridge and area.
Cost of each suitcase with contents: $200.

Suitcase Contents:
  • Medium size suitcase $80
  • Blanket: $20
  • Small pillow: $10
  • Coloring books/markers or journal/pen: $10
  • Crafts or toys or game: $30
  • Snacks: $15
  • Hygiene kit: $35
